about

Ground Level Falcons was formed from the ashes of Edmonton bands Vox Humana and Axiomatik.
The group formed after singer Matt Gardiner received a 10k20 Grant to record a professional LP, at which point he rounded up a trusted and talented group to collaborate with.

Matt got the GLF camp together and wrote some new material in the fall of 2011.
GLF booked some time in the early Spring to record with Stew Kirkwood at Sound Extractor Studios.

Ground Level Falcons self-titled LP was released in July of 2012 to critical acclaim with international reach - the singles staying on radio stations in Germany, Sweden and France for the next year and a half.

PRESS :

"The self-titled debut for this Edmonton quartet—formerly known as Vox Humana prior to welcoming its new bass player in late 2011—is a solid collection of rock tunes that take listeners through a range of emotion and style. Ground Level Falcons performs with a sense of maturity, which comes through with a well-developed style of storytelling that brings to light some of the personal challenges each member faced during the making of the album. With stand out tracks like "Cease/Desist" and " ... Slowly Into Winter," Ground Level Falcons are off to a promising start"
- Album review, Vue Weekly, Meaghan Baxter, Edmonton AB (Aug 23, 2012)

“Solid songwriting and sonic experimentation. The world needs more bands like Ground Level Falcons. The only thing better than the album is the live show, but the album is damn close to capturing the experience."”
- David Scott - author, songwriter, producer, davidscott.com (Aug 19, 2012)

“* The brilliant songwriting and sequencing * The musicianship and production really adds "weight" to the already great feel * The recordings are really "in your face", in the most positive meaning * It is really great to hear a disc where the songs, the performance, the overall feeling, really creates "a picture" for the listener * This album really feels like an "album" in the truest sense of the word!”
- Peter Holmstedt, Hemifran (Sweden) (Sep 11, 2012)

““Melodic rock ballads are exchanged with psychedelic and solid rock songs on the eponymous debut album of the Canadian veteran rock band ‘Ground Level Falcons’. They do mainly remind us of the American legendary rock band ‘R.E.M.’, due to both their music style and the strong resemblance between the voices of Michael Stipe and ‘GLF’-singer Matt Gardiner. A legacy can be continued.” – www.rootstime.be”
- Valsam, www.rootstime.de (Germany) (Dec 07, 2012)

“Ground Level Falcons rock! The band has arranged their songs great and when it comes to the latest ballad stages, then you know how well Canadians are from Edmonton (Alberta). GLF are hearty and loud. You can use the handset with dedicated quiet periods but also embrace. The falcon is, without looking at the mythology, for a sharp look, is extremely fast and can slide well. The Ground Level Falcons eröffenen a mini zoo, when they are in the final chord of the dark horse devote dreamy acoustic guitar and subtle rhythms of the "Penguins". By Adrian Armitage keyboards are uncommon sizes produced and sometimes he varies the sound in the direction of strings or piano. This contrasts with the electric guitar riffs, which makes but always for airy moods. The Ground Level Falcons make music from another planet, but they are able to each track to give a special stamp. Since then it's sound in a song towards the Far East collages that are combined simultaneously with a reggae abducted.”
- Joachim 'Joe' Brookes, rocktimes.de (Germany) (Dec 13, 2012)

"These guys do a fine job of adding some thoughtful rock music that is both heavy and indie into the world."
- Folkworld (Germany) (Apr 11, 2013)

"Their self titled debut is a solid album where the sound can be described as R.E.M meets Matthew Good with traces of Neil Young, we´re talking artrock here with a touch of Americana and indie rock. The opening track "....Slowly into water" bring thoughts to Maroon 5 but it´s the only track with those pop vibes, the 2nd track "The heart said to the brain" sounds more like how the rest of the album is. Great vocals from Matt Gardiner. "Lost at sea" is a beautiful indie rock tune while "Connections are made, only to be broken" is more progressive with Failure-like harmonies. I like this band."
- Kaj Roth, RothNRoll (Sweden) (Jan 12, 2013)

“Freshness is the word that best fits the eponymous Ground Level Falcons with eleven tracks various alternative rock that will shock the listener and not a destiny which business would be largely possible. Little wrong with this impeccable record from beginning to end, which for him to diversify into a formula about popisante not so simplistic as that.”
- Music Waves (France) (Jan 15, 2013)
